Gaia Scuderi is a dancer and choreographer. She began studying dance in 1981, taking classical, contemporary, and Graham dance classes at the Daria Collins school. At the same time, she completed her artistic training in opera singing, piano, and solfeggio at the “Vito Frazzi” School.
In 1990, with “Teatro dell’Arcano” led by Kassim Bayathly and Roberta Bongini, she became involved in Arabic dance, while continuing to perfect her skills in classical, modern, and flamenco dance with Angela Mugnai, Daniel Tinazzi, Rosanna Brocanello, and Claudio Iavarone, developing her own personalized style.
Since 1994, she has performed in some of the best theaters in Italy, including Teatro Studio in Scandicci, Teatro Puccini in Florence, Limonaia at Villa Strozzi, Teatro di Rifredi, Teatro Verdi in Florence, Teatro Stabile in Potenza, Teatro Rossetti in Vasto, Teatro Dams in Bologna, Teatro Stabile in Reggio Emilia, and Teatro Stabile in Urbino.
Abroad, she has performed at the International Festival in Tortosa, Spain, at a contemporary art exhibition in Heidelberg, Germany, at a contemporary art exhibition in Luxembourg, at the Arab Cultural Association in Belgium, at the World Theatre Festival at the Opera House in Damascus, and at the International Theatre Festival at the Royal Theatre in Marrakesh. She was also an honored guest at the National Theatre Festival in Libya.
She has participated in various international festivals, including the “Castel Dei Mondi” Festival in Andria (in collaboration with the Teatro Tascabile di Bergamo), the “Emmas” Festival in Olbia (in collaboration with Peter Gabriel), “Carovane” with the Municipality of Piacenza, “Fabbrica Europa” in Florence, Roscigno Danza, and the Pompeiano Festival at the Pompeii Arena.
Gaia Scuderi has worked with renowned musicians such as Jamal Ouassini, director of the Tanger Orchestra, Stefano Maurizi, a refined pianist and composer, and Kassim Bayathly, a prominent Iraqi director and head of the theatre department at the Libyan University of Tripoli.
In 2007, she co-wrote the dance manual “La danza del ventre” (The Belly Dance) with Roberta Bongini, published by Gremese Editions (including a DVD of her dances), available in Italy and France.
She is considered by critics to be one of the best soloists in Europe.
